9 May – Arrive in Inverness

Another beautiful day and after a really nice breakfast we set off for Inverness. The trusty sat-nav suggested it would take 5 hours so we left Kendal at 8.30 knowing that we would stop more than once.

We crossed the boarder to Scotland after about an hour but still had some way to go. We made a few detour’s most notably to Aviemore where there is still snow on the mountains. We both thought that Aviemore was where you ski from but actually the mountains are about 10 miles away but we did manage to find a steam train and had a wonder around the town, then drove up to the ski area where we saw Reindeer sitting in the snow trying to keep cool but unfortunately we didn’t see the funicular railway as it is closed for maintenance until the end of the month. Good job we saw a steam train in Aviemore!

Then it was back into the car and off to Inverness where we will be based for the next 2 weeks. We found the cottage which is actually in a private close with very limited parking but is wonderful, we have a Rayburn to play with although we may not be that brave, and almost as much space as we have at home.  It has a wonderful kitchen with a massive table, a snug and a conservatory (slightly odd in that it is at the front of the house).

After unpacking and a well earned beer it was time to relax and get ready for the assault on Inverness town tomorrow.
