Today was all about looking for Nessie, although first we had to climb a mountain! I had found a walk called ‘monsters and beasties’ which was only 4 miles and looked like it was a scenic walk looking at Loch Ness, unfortunately this wasn’t the case and the first mile was more suited to a mountain goat than Chris and I, but we made it all the way round and once we accepted that it was actually a forest walk not one where we saw the Loch it was really enjoyable. Because of this and despite it only being 4 miles it took a few hours so by the time we had finished it was time for our picnic lunch so we drove back down to the loch and although the plan had been to to sit by the loch it was so windy we stayed in the car. After lunch we set off for Fort Augustus to look at the lock’s as luck would have it a number of boats were on their way through so we watched them for a while but had to leave before the swing bridge opened as we had already spent quite some time there and we wanted to go to Urqhart Castle. The castle is very spectacular although I am sure where I last visited it wasn’t quite so organised, to be honest I don’t remember the visitor centre and I am sure we were allowed to go down onto the beach as I thought it was where I found one of Nessie’s teeth. Anyway we had a great time and explored every bit of it then stopped for a coffee and while we were relaxing drinking it a tall ship was heading towards us, unfortunately it didn’t have many sails up, but as it sailed by the castle it looked stunning. Another full day and we got back to the cottage about 6.30 ready to relax for the evening.
