14 May – Sea views and waterfalls

As the weather forecast is for nice weather for the next couple of days before we get some clouds we decided to have another day driving around inspecting the scenery and Lochs. We started by visiting the supermarket to stock up on necessary provisions then we set off for Redpoint which is right at the end of the B8056. On the way we stopped at Rogie falls which we had seen yesterday but hadn’t had time to visit, we walked to the falls, the waterfall is not rushing as quickly as I expected considering it is late spring, but all the same worth a visit. After that we stopped at Victoria falls, I wasn’t convinced that we were in the right place as we couldn’t hear them, but once we had walked to the viewing platform they were actually quite spectacular. At Redpoint we stopped at the end of the road, with a view over Skye and some of the western isles, a wonderful location, very peaceful we had lunch from our viewpoint at the top of the cliff. After lunch we retraced our steps then set off to Melvaig, another road that just stops, again great views and what looked like a really nice sandy beech but unfortunately no way down to it. We then drove round to Gruinard Bay which should have pink sand but we only saw a pink hew, but it was very pretty none the less. Our final stop of the day was the falls of Measach and the Victorian suspension bridge over the top of them. Chris wasn’t keen but made it over and we walked to the view point, the gorge is 120 m deep and it looks like the water comes quite high when it is in full flood, this is definitely the most spectacular of the waterfalls we have seen today. We had originally planned to drive to Ullapool, stop and have a look round then drive back along a different route that would bring us into Bonar Bridge but it was getting late so we just came back to Inverness and will do that another day.
