Tuesday 12th July – Agia Napa and Cape Greko

So it is our last day, a week flies by and although this probably isn’t where we would have chosen to go for a weeks holiday, it was really nice and great to have a whole week of uninterrupted sunshine. This morning after the regular morning swim and breakfast we decided to go to Agia Napa probably best to do this in the daytime while all the normal inhabitants are asleep. We arrived about 11 and found a car park not far from the monastery. We quickly went into tourist information to pick up a map then off on a walk round the old town (or what is left of it) the monastery seems to form part of the old town square, it didn’t look like much from the outside there was actually a really nice chapel, a big well (which seemed to be used as a backdrop for wedding pictures) and some double night (monastic) cells which unfortunately were locked. From there we walked round the back and down to the church which although new was very interesting as every wall and the ceilings have been painted in a variety of scenes. He final stop in the old town was the aqueduct which as with all Roman engineering was spectacular, we walked to the top of the part we could see but it was a little hot to do the full 1.5km so it was back down, and a walk down to the old harbour for a look round that area. It is a very strange harbour with ‘disco / party’ boats mixed in with working fishing boats after a walk round we stopped for lunch in a restaurant overlooking the harbour, lunch was nice, although the service was a little slow – having said that we were probably about 6 hours earlier than the normal crowd! Final stop of the day was a drive round to Cape Greco which is a high point on the peninsula with views out into the Mediterranean, then it was time to take the scenic route back to the villa ready for a swim and an early evening drink, not a bad way to spend our last day on the island.
