Friday 7 October – the other side of the world

So after 2 planes. 3 flights, 4 countries and more time zones / hours than I could keep track of we have finally arrived in Auckland. We had a really easy run through passport control (all electronic so no stamps in the passport) and customs where Chris’ cleaning capabilities were tested when they checked the walking boots and found them to pass the test but still required a quick ‘dunk’ in disinfectant to make sure – all very civilised and very painless. We were met by our driver and about half an hour later we we at our hotel that is apparently where the All Blacks stay when they have a game so should be ok.
The room is great with a small kitchenette, lounge area and bedroom a great place to start the trip. We unpacked then walked down to the supermarket to get breakfast and coffee supplies, we are only about 200 metres away from the sky tower and quite central. Back to the room and we decided we would ‘have a nap for an hour’ to try and recover from the flight. We had thought we would go and investigate the waterfront area and / or find tourist information but in the end we just had something to eat at a new burger bar which only actually opened today’s at 4pm so we were one of the first customers. Then it was back to the hotel to watch a bit of TV then be and hopefully this will avoid the worst of the jet lag but who knows!
