So we have now been as far north as we can go to Cape Reinga and now we are heading south. We had another wonderful breakfast with Martha and Roly and it was lovely and sunny, but as we were eating we saw the rain come across the bay so I think today is actually going to live up to the forecast of rain and possibly a thunderstorm! We were ready to leave about 9.00 so after saying our goodbyes we set off for the petrol station before the start of our journey. It should be about a five hour drive today but we have decided we don’t want to take the ferry so we are going to drive round the countryside so that we can see as much as possible. Unfortunately the day was a mix of sun and rain but the scenery is so spectacular you don’t really mind, what we have realised is that if a road is white on the map it probably means it isn’t what we would call a road and it is possible you will meet something quite large coming the other way! Anyway after stopping for lunch we finally arrived at Puhoi at about 6pm so the whole drive took about 8 hours plus about and hour stop for lunch, the total driven was 453KM. After a couple of attempts we did find the B&B which is wonderful, it is an old house and the guests stay in the house and the owners stay in the barn. We have the downstairs room which is next to the lounge so after checking in with the owners we got a couple of beers and sat in the lounge where a log burner had been lit and sat and had a lovely relaxing evening. We may walk down to the pub later for something to eat but to be honest I don’t think that is very likely!
