Saturday 12 November – to Golden bay

Today we are heading for Golden Bay which is just on the edge of Abel Tasman national park. Our route took us through Havelock again then along highway 6 which follows the coast before heading over the Takaka mountain pass. The drive was great, unfortunately there is still a bit of rain and the cloud cover was quite low so we couldn’t see far down the valleys but even so you get a really good view of the ravines and rivers that run through them. It was about 400km to Golden Bay so we stopped in Nelson to have a stretch and walk round so that we didn’t get too tied with the driving. We then drove a bit further down the road to stop at the picnic area overlooking the sea so we could have lunch. We arrived at our accommodation about 4.30 and Chris may have problems getting me to go our from here, we have a deck that leads to the sea and a wonderful cottage with a lounge and bedroom that also look over the sea and if the weather is good enough we even have our own little barbecue out the back. We went shopping while we were in Blenheim so we will be staying in this evening and having something to eat in the apartment and work out where we will go for the next few days.
