Skiing Breckenridge 2017

Sunday 29th January
What a way to start the holiday, beautiful blue sky’s, we walked down to the ski hire shop which opened just as we arrived and we were the only customers, a big change from when we are normally here in March! We went back to the room and dropped the skis off then went round to pick up the lift passes again we were the only people in there perhaps this is the time of year to come skiing. Despite the fact it is Sunday the slopes weren’t that busy so we stayed on peak 9 and alternated between mercury and C chair. We stopped for both hot chocolate and lunch and finally called it a day around 2pm not bad for the first day.

Monday 30th January
Another fantastically sunny day, we got on the lifts early and started on peak 9 then decided we would head over to peak 7 to see what those runs were like. We worked our way across the mountain which is alway really nice and if anything it seems to be a little busier than yesterday which is strange. We did actually make it to the peak 6 chair but didn’t go that far we did a couple of runs on 7 then decided to start heading back. Another great day on the mountain.

Tuesday 31st January
Today was really sunny so we decided to take the go-pro out and play around on peak 9. Chris wore it until we stopped for chocolate we did a number of runs green to black and he got some great shots of my skiing. After chocolate I wore the camera but unfortunately we didn’t quite have it at the right angle so I got some great shots of his skis but his top half didn’t feature very much! We tried again after lunch but we didn’t do many runs so we will have to have a go another day.

Wednesday 1st February
Today is our favourite skiing day as the slopes are always empty on Wednesdays, the wind has really picked up so they ended up shutting some of the lifts at the very top as it was gusting rather than constant. We skied both peak 9 and 8 and did some runs we haven’t done before as they are not normally groomed so that was great. We finished skiing around 2.30 and decided to head down to the river walk centre to look at the snow sculptures. Apparently every year Breckenridge hosts a snow sculpture competition, they were judged on Saturday and will be demolished this Saturday unless they melt first! Some are incredibly spectacular, my favourites were the Sweden entry which was double cars, the Mongolian entry which was called we are one family but was actually a family of deers and the Breckenridge entry called life saver which was a St. Bernard, sign boards and some skis. I am really glad we went round today as they are all starting to melt so I am not sure they would last until the weekend.

Thursday 2nd February
A complete change in the weather today, it started as cold and overcast but about half an hour after we set off it started snowing, unfortunately it is still quite windy which caused white out conditions so we decided to pack up for the day as neither of us were enjoying it. It gave us the chance to confirm the cross country skiing lessons and work out how we are going to get there. We then planned to go down to the outlet mall at Silverthorn but once we got to the bus station we found out that the next bus was an hour away so we decided against it and just had a walk back up Breckenridge high street then had a relaxing afternoon.
