Monday 6th February
So it was back to alpine skiing today which was really strange, first of all the poles were really short so pushing off from the chairlift was a little tricky! Interestingly although we have only had 3 days on cross country skis and years in alpine it felt really strange to be back on the boards. It was really nice this morning, the sun was out an it wasn’t too windy, but unfortunately the wind picked up after we stopped for chocolate and the the clouds gathered, the forecast says there is going to be about six inches of snow between now and Wednesday which will be great but that does mean that the clouds have to come in and the light goes flat! We skied until lunch time then decided that we are starting to push our muscles so we would call it a day in the hope we have recovered enough to play in the powder tomorrow.
Tuesday 7th February
So the storm they have been forecasting finally arrived but a little later than expected so rather than a couple of inches overnight the snow only seems to have started this morning meaning that there was about half and inch of snow on the runs proving a little bit of powder for us to play in although it got skied out really quickly. We played around on peak 9 this morning then went over to peak 8 for hot chocolate before exploring peak 8 and 7. We didn’t bother with peak 6 as the wind was really strong and peak 6 is quite exposed. We played around on 7 for a while then set off back to 8 to have lunch and start making our way back. It hasn’t stopped snowing all day so it will possibly be a great powder day tomorrow as long as not too many locals come up and spoil it!
Wednesday 8th February
Despite the fact we had planned to Alpine ski today, when we got up it was snowing and the wind was blowing so hard the snow was horizontal on outside our window so we decided that we would head back to the Nordic centre and have another go at cross country. We decided we would try skating again today as we have now done a couple of days of classic. When we got to the centre they did say that skate might be a bit hard as the conditions are so soft but we decided to give it a go anyway. I felt a lot more relaxed today and although I am still by no means an expert it is definitely beginning to click, a couple more months and I should be there! We did a couple of circuits of each upper loop, then stopped for a hot chocolate and a rest before heading back out again and going round the lower loop which we did on classic skis the other day, but it seemed a bit harder on skate skis and by the time we got back it was after lunch time so we stopped again but the only soup they had on today was a strange lentil thing so we decided to pack up and head into town for a late lunch / early dinner. We went to the burger place again and finally got back to the room about 4pm so just collapsed and relaxed for the evening.
Thursday 9th February
So six inches of snow yesterday and another inch overnight, plus it being mid-week ish meant that it should have been a perfect day to be on the mountain but unfortunately the wind is still quite strong and all the upper lifts were closed also it would seem that the snow haves brought all the locals to the mountain as well. Having said that the conditions were great and the snow really soft so we had a great time, we stopped for hot chocolate then hit the mountain again, but interestingly the temperature has risen and the snow was starting to get soft at the bottom, but the good news was that they opened one of the higher lifts so at least the queues on the lower ones reduced quite a lot making it a lot easier to wiz round the mountain. I can’t believe we only have one day left, it has gone so quickly but I guess we have done quite a lot.
