So this holiday ends as it started sitting in an airport lounge waiting for a plane to arrive, it has been quite a trip we have spent almost five weeks in Japan and South Korea and in that time we have navigated our way around the Japanese rail network and a number of the towns with only a pocket wifi and google maps, we have made use the the translation app that Chris found which variously gave us translations we understood and some we couldn’t quite work out. We have seen amazing cherry blossom in Japan and equally stunning lilac blossom in Korea. We have walked almost 200 miles and watched people light candles to help their children pass the entrance exams we also saw one to ‘prevent senility’ While we have been here the Koreans have put one president in jail and elected another, the world watched while two bullies argued over who had the biggest toys (USA v North Korea) but the people of South Korea didn’t really seem to notice. We tried saki in Japan and made up a family motto in Korea so that we could watch a world famous calligrapher write it for us (well she is world famous in Korea) there are things we won’t miss such as the incredibly hard beds and almost nonexistent pillows. All in all it has been an experience so it is now time to come home and plan the next one!
