We had a ridiculously early start as the flight was just after 8 which meant that we had to be at Heathrow by 6am! Good thing it is summer and at least it was light when we left. BA are rolling out self service bag check which now means not only do you checkin on line, print your own boarding pass but you now check your own bag and put the luggage tag on it before loading it onto the baggage belt, Chris made the comment that soon we would be flying the plane as well! We had a bit of a walk round the airport then we went up to the lounge to have some coffee and breakfast. The flight left on time and as it was only a couple of hours we landed just after 11 local time, luckily we were near the front of the plane so we didn’t have to wait long to get through passport control then a short wait for the bag and off to get a taxi to the hotel. We thought we wouldn’t be able to get into the room as it was only just after 12 but it was ready so we went and unpacked, changed into our shorts as it is really hot and set off in search of the town square and lunch. Our hotel was built in 1925 as luxury accommodation for passengers on the orient express route between Paris and Istanbul. According to the booklet in the room a number of famous people have stayed here and it was also where the first Zagreb beauty contest was held in 1926. We are not far from the main town square and it was a nice walk up through the gardens until we got to the square, we went into tourist information but they didn’t have much so we just went for a walk round then found somewhere to have a drink and lunch. We walked back to the hotel and had a bit of a relax before going out in the evening for a walk, it’s still quite warm so it was really nice then it was back to the room to get ready for tomorrow.
