The weather forecast for today was rain until lunchtime which somehow translated in our minds to it won’t rain today so we set off after breakfast to explore the upper town, the first stop was the Viktor Kovacic apartments which should have been at 21-23 Masarykova but when we got there we couldn’t see any sign of the entrance despite walking up and down a few times, we did find the Kallina house which was built in the 19th century as an office and apartment block, but most notably one of the main investors was the owner of a ceramics factory which is why the facade is covered in brightly decorated ceramic tiles. While we were looking for the apartment the heavens opened and not only did it rain we had thunder and lightning so we stood in a doorway for a while then decided to go round to tourist information to try and find out about the apartment and where the entrance is, unfortunately on the way the rain became monsoon like so we found another doorway and sheltered there. Finally the rain eased off although it didn’t stop so we headed back to the hotel for our macs. After drying off and checking the museum which we found out only opens on Thursday we set out again in search of a different museum. This time we went to the Ethnographic Museum which was founded in 1919 on the initiative of a factory owner from Slovakia who donated his collection of folk costumes and textiles, unfortunately there was a lot of building work going on so some of the rooms were closed but all the same it was interesting. By the time we finished looking round the rain had stopped so we walked back to the cathedral to look round that area and find Prislin’s tower which contains the remnants of a medieval tower which is currently be turned into an open air theatre for the summer, we were going to continue up to the upper town but decided to get some lunch. We found a really nice (pizza) restaurant with quite a lot going on so we had a leisurely lunch people watching which nice, then we set off in search of and ice cream and finally back to the hotel for a relax before going out again tonight.
