After two quite exhausting days of cross country today it was back to the Alpine skis and a form of skiing we know how to do! It looked a little overcast this morning but although chilly was really nice and warmed up during the day into a nice sunny afternoon. We decided to head up the chairlift first and work our way over to mid vail and see what the runs there were like as at least we have a choice of lifts from the mid point. We did a few runs around mid vail then as they had groomed one of the blacks we decided to take that down to the base of Golden Peak which was a really nice run although I wouldn’t want to do it if it was any more icy or bumpy! We took the chair up from Golden Peak and had planned to ski round to Two Elk restaurant for hot chocolate and a snack but unfortunately a bit of miss communication and we ended up on the wrong lift so we had to do another couple of runs before we could get to the restaurant! We should definitely eat at the Golf Club / Nordic centre if we want to eat out as the prices at Two Elk are ridiculous but we had something to eat, a hot chocolate – without marshmallows as they don’t do them here and most importantly a rest then it was time to get back on the skis and start all over again. We decided to do a couple of runs around that side of the mountain then skied down to the Mid Vail Gondola to get back up. Then it was just a couple more runs before heading back to the apartment. We had actually skied over 40 miles today, in comparison to the 2.5 miles we did cross country, this just goes to show when you have technique you don’t have to put quite so much effort in!
40 miles! We are very impressed after your two days of self propulsion. How many miles per thousand calories {marshmallows} does that represent.
Visiting Fran today and she has been most amused by your exploits. X. M&D
Glad you are enjoying the updates – Unfortunately I think we are still in miles debt for the marshmallows!
