Sunday 28 Jan – Cross country part two

Today we had a skate lesson booked we had a slightly earlier start but as it is a lot warmer today it wasn’t a problem. Chris has been looking forward to the skate lesson as last year he found it a lot easier than the classic, I on the other hand was a little concerned as I found it quite hard last year. Our teacher was Julie who was very nice and started us off on some exercises to try and get our balance this was good as it is basically the thing I find hardest I think that what you need is confidence in your strength and balance and I don’t really have either. All the same we moved onto actually skating and I did seem to get the hang of it and really enjoyed it, the only down side was that I followed Julie along one part of the track and the length of her slide versus the length of mine meant that within about 10 strides she was pretty much 100 yards ahead of me! All the same it was really good and I think that at some point I will finally get the hang of it, about the only thing I did well was come down the hill but as that didn’t involve skating I am not sure it counts! The lesson slightly overran and in the end Julie had to leave us out on the tracks although not far from the clubhouse so we worked our way back and went inside for a hot chocolate and some water as we had definitely burnt off some calories. After a short break we went out to practice and although it started ok I think we were getting tired so after about an hour we decided to stop and have lunch which was nice. After lunch Chris did some more practicing, but I was worried that I have pulled my left calf so although I went out on the tracks I didn’t so any skating but we will be back next week when hopefully I will improve some more.
