Sunday 4 February – Cross country day 4

When we set off for the golf club today Chris was full of optimism as we are going to do Skate skiing today and it is by far his favourite and for good reason, he is definitely a lot more confident on skate skis than I am and also than he is on classic. When we checked in we were recognised by the guys on the desk and they gave us a discount as we are now classed as regulars! After getting our boots and skis it was time to head out onto the snow and for some reason, everything that we had been taught last week went completely out of my mind. However with some encouragement and wise words from Chris I finally got the hang of it and although I find it very exhausting, possibly more so than Classic, I did really enjoy it, and it started to work quite well, more than classic you really need to relax and have confidence in transferring your weight from one leg to the other. Unfortunately I seem to fade a lot faster than I do on classic skis, and to be honest I don’t last that long on them, so we stopped for a Hot Chocolate and for some reason after that everything went to pot when we went back out. After a lot of effort and serious consideration of taking the skis off and walking back, it did finally start to click again and we managed another hour or so. We had lunch at the club and Chris did a few more runs but I decided against it as I was shattered. We then decided to head back to the room to watch the Super Bowl which was scheduled to start at 4.30. We could have stoped in town and watched it at Vail Brewery who have a 152in TV set up but we decided against that. We got back just in time and settled down with a beer to watch the football. Back onto alpine skis tomorrow so all should be well.
