Our final day in Las Vegas so we decided to have a go on the monorail, we walked down to the Flamingo and had breakfast then walked all the way through one of the casino’s to get to the station. We had decided we would go to the Stratosphere hotel as we hadn’t made it yesterday and this is the end of the line so it gave us a chance to look at Vegas from a different direction. The monorail station actually drops you off at the SLS hotel which was formally the Sands which is where it all started for the likes of Frank Sinatra it was the original entertainment venue. From there we walked round to the Stratosphere where if you are mad enough you can get on a ride that will try to throw you off the side of the building, or actually jump off the side of the building as one woman had chosen to do! We went up to the observation tower which is enclosed then I went up to the open air deck which actually wasn’t that exposed so I went and got Chris and we had a look round over the strip, everything seemed a long way off from where we were. A very helpful guide showed us where Area 51 is and also where they tested the first Atomic bomb, we also got a good view of all the mountains that surround Las Vegas. We had a good look round then came back down and got back on the monorail. We decided to do the whole journey back to the MGM which is the other end of the line, most of the journey is through quite business looking districts but the final few stops run behind the main hotels and you get a great view of everyone swimming in the various hotel pools. We had to get off at MGM while the cars go to the end of the line and turn round, then we got back on the same carriage and made the journey back to the Flamingo which was actually quite disappointing so we didn’t stay very long, next we went to the Paris hotel to have a look round as it is one of the few that we haven’t been in. In keeping with the Parisian theme from the outside, the inside is designed to look like stylised Parisian streets, it also interestingly has parts of the Eiffel Tower feet in the middle of the casino to make it seem more authentic. We played a few machines then went over to the Bellagio the final hotel for us to visit. This had a very impressive display of hand painted umbrella’s hanging from the ceiling on the way in I am not sure what they are made of but they were very pretty. We played a few more machines then decided to head back to our hotel to have a snack or something before heading to the room to relax. We realised after we had something to eat that we hadn’t actually looked round our casino so we went and payed a few machines, where despite being up at one stage we finally lost money although nowhere near as much as some people who were playing the slot machines with hundred dollar bills! About 4.30 we decided to head to the room for a bit of a relax and to watch the fountains before heading out this evening. We have a ridiculously early start in the morning so we will get most of the packing done then probably try and get an early night, we will have to see how that works out.
