I don’t think either of us slept very well as we had the alarm set for 2:45 as we were being picked up at 4am and needed to walk to the other end of the hotel to checkout. As it turned out we actually showered and finished packing a little early so we could probably have had another 15 or so minutes in bed funny how fast you can move when you are not really thinking about it! We left the room at 3:45 and went to check out which was a bit of a challenge as they were updating their IT systems and decided we couldn’t pay with a different credit card, I think this was more to do with them not wanting to than they couldn’t anyway we settled the bill in cash and went outside to see if our car was there which it was and we had an uneventful ride to the airport. As this is an internal flight we had allowed 2 hours to check in a get through security which was a good thing as they only had two checkin desks open, our bags were checked all the way through to Honolulu although I was still rather sceptical about them arriving as we only have just over an hour between the flight landing and us taking off in LA but we will see! By the time we got through security, made our way to the gate and picked up a coffee and a snack it was almost time to board. It is only about 50 minutes from Las Vegas to LA so almost before we knew it we were back down again. My worries about the short transfer time were completely unfounded as our arrival and departure gates were virtually next door to each other. We didn’t have to wait long until it was time to board, we had wonderful seats, very similar to the Emirates layout with one seat behind the other that would go to a flat bed, and great views out the window. The only problem was that it was cloudy in La so we didn’t actually have anything to look at out of the window! The flight was almost six hours, but Honolulu is three hours behind LA so we landed at about 11.15 despite it feeling like mid afternoon. Again one of the many positives about this trip is the fact that the priority tags on our baggage actually seem to work and our bags were among the first out which gave us a chance to get to the car hire before there was too much of a queue. Unusually for us we have a car rather than an SUV but the process of picking up the car was painless and before long we were off. We decided to go to Pearl Harbour as it is a little out of the way, we were both surprised at the amount of Japanese tourists there, we were pretty much the minority visitor group. As this is still an active military base they only let 1,000 visitors a day onto the base so we weren’t able to get in but we could see the main sights through the fence. We had a bit of a drive round the area, but there are a lot of roadworks which made it a bit difficult to follow Sat nav instructions then we headed over to the hotel to see if we could get into the room which we could so it was a case of changing into shorts then heading off in search of something to drink with meant that we went to the mini market and brought some beers then came back to the room and sat on the balcony watching everyone play in the surf. It has been a very long day but this is a great place to relax.
