Sunday 27th May – LA and a Dodgers game

The flight was uneventful but actually shorter than I thought because of the time difference so we only managed to get a few hours fitful sleep, we had booked a car to pick us up at the airport but it took an age to get to us, in the future we might just grab a taxi when we arrive as it seems faster, luckily it is Sunday so the traffic to West Hollywood wasn’t too bad and we arrived at the hotel about 8am. Unfortunately despite booking the room for last night to make sure we had a room available, we were classed as a no-show and after some discussion / debate they agreed to give us breakfast and refund last nights stay so we went off to have breakfast and wait for the room to be ready. By the time everything was sorted out it was almost 10am – so much for getting straight into the room and having a relax, but we did get a great room on the 12th floor overlooking downtown LA so there was just enough time to go to the room, jump in the shower and change into long trousers as it is at least 10 degrees colder here and head off to Dodgers stadium for the baseball. We decided to go by public transport as it gave us a view of the city, although it was quite a long ride not helped by the fact that the bus driver didn’t stop then gave us the wrong directions so we ended up walking up a really steep hill and back down again just to have to walk up a different hill to finally get to the stadium. We found our seats and settled in for the game, it never ceases to surprise me how late the Americans turn up for a game and also how early they leave. Anyway despite a slow start the game turned out to be really good, Dodgers scored 2 home runs and ended up winning 6 -1 although this was probably as much because of poor fielding by San Diego as it was good play by LA but all the same the crowd were happy and it was very entertaining. I don’t think I have ever seen so many ‘children’ run the bases at the end of the game some of the kids were so small I think it was more about mum or dad wanting to do it than the children. After the game we set off back to the hotel where we had a coffee in the room then went in search of something to eat and had an early night to make up for the lack of sleep we have had.
