Sunday 14th October – Travelling North

Today we picked up the car and started travelling north, which in this upside down country should mean that it starts getting warmer. We walked round to the car hire company and just managed to get there before the rain started again, it is starting to feel a lot like England here and to think before we came we worried that the drought might impact what we wanted to do! We drove back to the hotel and checked out then set off for Hervey Bay. We had put a few stops in on the way, the first of which was a drive up the mountain to a lookout over Brisbane but in the end we decided we wouldn’t do this as the cloud was very low and as we were driving towards the mountain road we couldn’t see the top so it was fairly obvious that we wouldn’t be able to see anything if we did get to the lookout! After about an hour and a half of intermittent rain we swapped over driving then it was time for our next stop, a supermarket in Gympie! Having managed to negotiate our way round the car park we went and picked up supplies as we are in a self catering apartment for the next few days as it was a little later than we had hoped we called in at subway for something to eat before setting off again. The rain had returned in style so we decided we would just head to the apartment as it was still a couple of hours away and a walk along a cliff path in torrential rain didn’t seem much fun so after a couple more exchanges of driving we finally arrived at the apartment about 5:15. We have a lovely place it has a lounge / dinner downstairs with kitchen and utility room and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We even have a little patio area should it stop raining and there is also a pool and barbecue area if we want to use them. We even have our own garage that has access directly into the house so by the time we had unpacked the car and sorted everything out it was gone 6pm and time for a little relax before having something to eat and getting an early night as we are being picked up at 7:30 tomorrow to go to Frazer Island.
