Monday 22nd October – Towards the mountains

After a great nights sleep where the bed didn’t move and a shower that you didn’t have to be a contortionist to use we went for breakfast then packed up the car. We had planed to pick up lunch in Airlie Beach before we left but talking to the receptionists she recommended a deli on route if wanted a sandwich, so we decided to take her advice, packed up the car and set off. Unfortunately the other thing the receptionist said was there wasn’t much of note on the drive and she was right. We arrived in Ayr which is where the deli is about two hours after starting off and stopped to pick up a sandwich. About the only thing of note we saw along the way was field after field of Mango trees which is probably why every other advert around here is for mangos. We then just drove straight to Townsville which is our stop for tonight and arrived about 1:15 so went to the top of Castle hill which looks over the town and had our lunch. There are a few walks around the top of the hill so we did each of those which gave us fantastic views over the city. It is really warm the car says 31 degrees which is probably why it felt very warm on the walk. By the time we had finished we were quite hot so we decided to go to the hotel and have a swim. We missed the hotel the first time round but found the parking bays outside the second time so we checked in and after dropping off the luggage and parking the car we got changed and went to the pool. This was actually a really small pool but was on the roof so we had good views while we swam then we dried off in the sun for a while before coming back to the room and getting changed before heading off for something to eat.
