Thursday 15th November – New town New territory

Our flight from Ayers Rock was scheduled to depart at 9.10 so we loaded up the car and checked out about 6.45 then set off for the airport – unfortunately what we didn’t realise was that the airport doesn’t seem to open until about 8.30 or at least the car hire doesn’t and check-in only opened about 1.5 hours before the flight but luckily it wasn’t too warm so we sat outside the terminal until the doors were opened then we moved inside to queue until check-in actually opened. We had a slight shock as our bags seemed to have doubled in weight over the last five days but it turns out that although one bag had been weighed and moved on, it was still registering on the scales so the second bag was registering both the weights, the good news was that the person at the check-in next to us had seen this before so rather than being charged for excess baggage everything was fine. By the time we had sorted this out car hire place still haven’t opened so we just dropped the keys at the bag drop and went and found a seat airside and watched them x-ray the food that was about to be sold in the shop! The flight to Alice took about 30 minutes which is impressive as in all it took us 11 hours to drive it, then it was just a case of waiting in the departure lounge for our flight to Adelaide. The flight to Adelaide was one of the longer ones it actually had a film. We landed about 3pm and by the time we had collected the luggage and got to the hotel it was about 4. We have probably seen more people here than we have seen in the last week it is strange to be back in a town and right in the middle of one at that. We are staying an apartment that is believed to be the former apartment of Sir Thomas Playford, in the old Treasury building, who was the Premier of South Australia from 1938 to 1965. It is a nice room and after visiting the local supermarket we settled in for an evening of laundry and relaxation before hitting the town tomorrow.
