Today we had a five hour journey to Coffs Harbour where we will spend Christmas. The plan was to do some shopping on the way as everything will be closed tomorrow but as the road north is the Pacific Highway we set off hoping for a scenic drive, we were a little disappointed as you couldn’t see the sea at any point on the drive but we had our trusty pod cast to listen to. Once we reached the half way point we stopped at Woolies to buy our Christmas supplies, our original plan had been to get to Coffs Harbour before we did the shopping but I am glad we had the change of plan because the carpark was full and they were starting to run out of food – limited steak and chicken and they were virtually out of barbecue bits, the good news is that the had what we wanted so we stocked up and continued driving. We had picked up lunch yesterday so we stopped to eat our sandwich at one of the rest stops then continued the drive. The Pod cast actually turned out to be a ghost story but was quite good and got us to within an hour of Coffs Harbour so Chris only had to listen to my singing along to Christmas songs for about an hour. He isn’t quite sure singing is an accurate reflection of what I was doing but at least I know the words and it actually started to feel like Christmas so was good. We stopped in the town to pick up some ice cream for pudding tomorrow then went round to the accommodation. We have a fantastic 2 bed apartment on the ground floor which is a shame because we are very close to the sea and a higher floor may have just meant we were able to see the sea but it does mean that the patio is in the shade which I think will be a benefit as it is clear blue skies and quite hot here. We unpacked, put the beer and tomorrows bubbles in the fridge to cool down and went outside to sit and relax and watched the guy in the apartment just along from us put the Christmas lights up on his balcony. We don’t have a lot planned for the next few days as most things are closed but I can definitely think of worse places to be at Christmas than chilling out by the sea with bubbles in hand. I even had it confirmed that there are no jelly fish in the sea so we may even go for a swim. It is strange to think that we are less than 400km (390 to be precise) from Brisbane where we started this trip 11 weeks ago tomorrow!
