Tuesday 25th December – A very different Merry Christmas

Our first ever ‘hot’ Christmas and it is very different. Some traditions can be broken, others just have to stay so bubbles in the morning is definitely required however snacks of sausage rolls and baby sausages are not when it is 28C and sunny! It is very strange not talking to Mum and Dad on Christmas morning but in the UK it was still Christmas Eve so that had to wait until the evening for that. We had a very relaxed breakfast on the patio then went for a walk along the sea front. In Coffs Harbour there is a sea wall and a jetty which actually makes quite a nice enclosed harbour area so we walked along the jetty a bit then came back and walked along the beach and in the sea to the end of the breakwater which is quite a way but a nice walk and for once didn’t involve lots of hills! We watched a few fishing boats go out and even a couple of sailing yachts going out as we walked to the end of the breakwater having a chat to a couple of people on the way. There were quite a few Aussies on the beach set for their Christmas lunch, it would seem that if you want one of the covered barbecue tables you have to stake your claim early as they were all in use by the time we walked round and it was still quite early in the morning. As we walked back along the headland we watched a couple of people load their boats back onto the trailers then kept an eye on them as they used the tables to gut the fish they had caught, needless to say they were being watched closely by the seagulls who definitely did quite well out of the deal. After this we did something I don’t think I thought I would do, we went swimming in the sea! It was actually warmer than I thought and great fun as there were quite a few waves which Chris managed to surf on but I just got wet! After a while we came back to the apartment then after a quick shower, a bit more to drink then it was time for our Christmas Lunch. We didn’t have turkey but a very nice ginger mince noodle dish followed by strawberries and ice cream for me and ice cream and coconut sauce for Chris. After lunch we sat down to watch a film or possibly and episode of Dr Who depending on what we can find before phoning the UK and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
