Wednesday 2nd January – To Perth eventually!

It was all going so well we had booked a taxi who arrived a little early so as we got downstairs he was there. The traffic to the airport wasn’t bad and then it all went a bit wrong. As the driver was pulling up to the terminal he said “there are a lot of people around I am not sure what is going on maybe there is a problem” but it turns out there wasn’t a problem it just seemed to be a case of all Virgin flights leave at the same time and they couldn’t cope. They had a queue that went up and down the road plus the same again inside the airport. They kept making announcements about how the flights were all scheduled together and they were trying to process 10,000 passengers today which seems strange as surely they are responsible for scheduling! When we finally got inside the terminal, which was about an hour after we arrived, we were then sent to a secondary queue round the back where they had three desks open, finally once it was 30 minutes until our flight left we got fast tracked to check in and again through security only to arrive at the gate to find out that the flight was delayed. We finally left about 11:00 1.5 hours after our scheduled time but to be honest it wasn’t a big problem as we loose time on the way to Perth (3 hours behind Sydney) and we wouldn’t have been able to check in anyway! Chris waited for the luggage and I went and got the car which was another challenge as they couldn’t find the car. In the end it arrived and we were finally on our way. We stopped at the supermarket on the way then went round to a very nice apartment about 3.30 local time (6.30 Sydney time), it is more of a studio than an apartment but very spacious and looks out over the harbour and the sea. We unpacked as we are here for a few days then had a relax before getting something to eat.
