Friday 11th January – A very long drive

Even if we had taken the shortest route from Esperance to Albany it would still have taken five hours so after breakfast and filling up on fuel we set off. Fran at the B&B had suggested we took the slightly more scenic route which Brendan said would only add about 20km to the trip and as it would take us through the mountains we decided we would. Unfortunately although it was possibly more scenic it was still pretty monotonous and we didn’t find that the scenic route had much to look at anyway but there were a few things although we missed the windmill built by a Dutch guy who has also turned an old DC10 into accommodation! We did however spot the town of Borden despite the fact that it only contained about 10 houses but the good news was that as we drove in the woman that ran the general store came out to meet us, shame we were only stopping for a driver change and loo break! We finally arrived at the hotel about 16:30 after traveling 500km exactly so we settled in and located the local restaurants before having a much needed relax as long driving days are really hard work when the scenery doesn’t change that much.
