Thursday, what a strange day on the slopes, we had clear skies and at first it wasn’t too windy but it picked up later in the day. Although it is only Thursday it got quite busy later in the morning so we resorted to the singles line to avoid the queues. I had a very strange ride up with a group that despite me asking refused to put the bar down, I am really not sure why unless it was one macho thing, I have to say it made me feel quite vulnerable on the lift so not something I will do again by choice. The skiing was good but quite shattering, we gave up mid afternoon and came back to the room for a relax, we decided we would eat in the apartment this evening rather than going out as we were both tied, I think I was more shattered than Chris as I needed to go to bed quite early, hopefully I will have recuperated by morning. Friday the forecast last night had been for a storm to come in and last until Sunday, they were right, we had six inches of snow overnight and it continued to snow all day. Chris is really good at skiing in powder and for someone that didn’t like skiing in glasses because they fogged up he does really well in low cloud. The skiing this morning was really nice as the slopes had been groomed under the powder, it wasn’t as busy as last Friday so apart for stopping to put an extra layer on as the wind picked up we skied through to lunch. At lunch for some reason my contact came out and thought I managed to get it back it made my eye water a lot, that and the fact that the nice powder was now moguls and the visibility hadn’t improved meant that we gave up early before we pulled something. Saturday so it’s snowing, it’s the weekend and all the crowds have arrived so we set off for the Nordic centre to have another day of cross country skating. It started off ok although I find it even harder when there is powder, and a bit like alpine it doesn’t seem to have any effect on Chris! The first circuit was hard but ok but after we stopped for a hot chocolate I didn’t seem to be able to get the hang of it again. We went down to the lower tracks but the snow was quite deep so we pretty much came straight back up to the upper tracks but my mojo had gone and I had all sorts of problems so we went in for another rest and decided to have a lesson tomorrow, after we booked that we went out once more but gave up pretty quickly and decided to head back to the room for a relax and to prepare our bodies for further exertion tomorrow. Sunday, well the forecast storm definitely arrived last night we had 13 inches overnight and more forecast today so it was with a little trepidation that we set off for the Nordic centre for our lesson as it is quite hard doing cross country in deep powder. We set off early as we thought it might be busy and we were right, the snow was almost coming down faster than they could clear it and the weekenders that have made it to Breckenridge were all on the bus, we managed to get on and then found out that it was so busy they were actually not stopping at the transportation centre one of the key stops on the route! We finally arrived at the centre at about 9.15 and got our boots and skis then set off with Olivia for our lesson. We were pretty much the only people on the tracks which was nice but it was hard work and the longer we were out there the more the snow seemed to be coming down. We started by going back to the basics and getting the skate motion which when you start doing it right causes you to move. We went through the various skate techniques and in the end our lesson lasted almost 2 hours. It was really good and very helpful but exhausting. We stopped for a hot chocolate then went out again but my legs were shot so Chris did a loop on his own, I some how managed to coordinate going out to see what he was up to with him actually arriving back at the centre so after taking a few photos we went back inside and decided to call it a day. The snow was really heavy by this time so we decided to go and get something to eat before heading back to the room, we called in at Ollie’s the burger place we had found last time we were here so we had a burger then walked back to the room and watched the snow continue to come down. It will be interesting to see how much we end up with as it has to be at least a foot already.
