Saturday 20th April – Switzerland here we come

We were picked up at 6:45 and had a really clear run to the airport. Luckily the climate change protesters were not evident, not sure if they haven’t made it to terminal 5 or if they have gone away but either way we made good time and checked in really quickly. BA have gone totally self service now so after depositing our bags and going through security we set off for the lounge. We had some breakfast then it was pretty much time to get on the flight. We left on time and somehow managed to avoid the queue at security possibly because we went through the automated gates where there wasn’t a queue and before we knew it we had our bags, had purchased our train ticket and we were ready for the train to Lucerne. It was actually quite a busy train but we managed to get seats and settled down to have our picnic lunch. We went into Zurich before heading out to Lucerne but we didn’t have to change trains at all just had a bit of a wait at Zurich. The view of the lake and mountains from the train were quite spectacular and there are some quite nice houses to look at as well which made the journey go quite quickly. The train terminates at Lucerne so after a quick visit to tourist information to get a map then round to the hotel to check in, luckily although we were a little early we were able to get into the room, we have a studio on the 4th floor in an old building across the road from the hotel so we will definitely not miss the gym while we are here! We dropped the bags in the room then went to the supermarket to get some drinks then came back to the apartment for a relax before heading out for something to eat later, we are right in the middle of everything. We went out for something to eat, we seem to be surrounded by Italian restaurants which seems strange in Switzerland but will work well for us, so we had a pizza then a bit of a walk and went back to the apartment to relax and get ready to explore the city tomorrow.
