We originally planned to come to Canterbury tomorrow for a week, but due to Chris needing a biopsy on Thursday we have shifted it forward by a day and had to unfortunately cut it a bit short, but despite this we are sure we will have a good time. We packed yesterday, so this morning we loaded up Chris’ car, then jumped into my car and went to the bowling club where Chris had to play the semi final of the mixed triples. It is a lovely day so although it would have been nice to get on our way, it wasn’t a problem to sit in the sun watching a game of Bowls. Chris’s team finally won, but it took a bit longer than we expected so he didn’t get chance to celebrate as we just headed home and while he got changed I packed the final bits into the car then we set off, I drove to start off with so that Chris could have a bit of a relax and also eat some lunch. We had planned to drive through a couple of villages and possibly stop in some, our first stop was Eynsford where we parked the car and had a walk through the village, we had planned to visit Eynsford Castle but it is closed to due to structural issues. The castle was founded just after the Norman Conquest which I think is when the village was founded, we walked to the bridge which was quite picturesque but on a hot and sunny Sunday was very busy, then it was time to get back in the car and as it was about 4pm we decided to drive directly to Canterbury. We got to within a couple of miles of the apartment when we found the road was closed because the police and emergency services were dealing with a traffic incident, unfortunately it wasn’t clear what we could do about this so I went and asked the policeman who was stopping the cars and motorbikes go along the road, she was really helpful and explained the route we should take, she also told me that once we had turned right Google Maps would update and take us the correct way which was absolutely right. We arrived at the apartment about 5:15 and managed to park just outside, the started the climb up 3 flights of stairs to our apartment. It is on the top floor with a very comfortable lounge, although the bed looks a little small! We unpacked and put the breakfast bit and drinks in the fridge the set off along the footpath along the river to into Canterbury to find something to eat. We had previously picked a pizza restaurant that gets very good reviews and it didn’t disappoint, so we had a few drinks and a wonderful meal then walked back to the apartment for a coffee and a bit of a relax before we start exploring tomorrow.
