Well there you go, we managed to get out of the hospital at about 8:30 last night so we decided to come home rather than have another night in the hospital and come home this morning, which was nice as it meant that we were able to have a lie in and have a more relaxed morning. We had breakfast, threw the last few bits in the case and checked that everything was set for our trip. The car was due to pick us up at 1pm and about 15 minutes before, Chris said, can you check what passport number I have on my advanced passenger information as I think it might be my old passport number! A quick check online confirmed that it was, which luckily I was able to update before the taxi came! Despite not flying for over 2 years BA have let us keep our Silver membership which means we can access the lounge, but a couple of days ago I had the thought that we might be able to upgrade to Business class using Avios points (we have used them to pay for flights before but feel we won’t be flying as much now so why not), we were able to upgrade for £18 each plus some points so we did which will make our first flight since March 2020 significantly more comfortable. We arrived at Heathrow in good time, got through check-in and passport control in what felt like record time then headed for the lounge where I had a very nice Red Thai curry with a glass of Savingon Blanc while Chris worked his way through the steak pies and larger! Probably just in time, as I am not sure I need to eat again for a week! they called the flight and we were off. Just when I thought I didn’t need to eat again, more food arrived, once we were settled in our seats they brought round coffee and afternoon tea! It was actually very nice and we managed to fit that in on top of everything else then before we knew it we were on our descent into Nuremberg. One of the many benefits of being in business class is that you get to passport control before everyone else, we were the second people through and our bags were among the first off so we set off in search of the UBhan into the centre of Nuremberg and then walked round to the hotel. Obviously we have lost an hour coming in this direction, but we were in the hotel, having put the bags in the room and sitting in the bar with the first of what I assume will be many beers that we sample this holiday all within an hour of landing!
